30 Days of Denim – Day Two

So today, I took an even bigger style leap! I saw a picture that I just liked the silhouette of and took my style inspiration from that instead of copying it directly. Baby steps, people. Baby steps.

Here was the pin:

And then I laughed out loud hysterically at the irony of the source being a site called Petite Little Girl — 3 things I am most definitely NOT. But I liked the leopard, I liked the belt, and I am in LOVE with a high waisted pencil skirt (one of which I happen to have – IN DENIM!)

And here’s what I came up with:

Similar, but different.  Pulled together but still casual.

Sweater: Merona for Target
Tank: Old Navy
Skirt: Gap Outlet
Wedges: Merona for Target
Belt: Target
Necklace: A gift from my Mama (and a favorite!)

I actually felt super comfy all day (Gap skirts rule!) and was glad to do something a little out of my comfort zone. Maybe tomorrow I will venture out of the “Target” section of my closet. Maybe not, you never know.

30 Days of Denim – Day One

Well I wasn’t kidding when I mentioned training wheels yesterday, because Day One’s outfit comes hot off the Pinterest presses.

Here was my inspiration:

Cute and casual but pulled together — this is the goal. It seems so easy when I type it out, why does it get so hard when I am staring at a sea of clothes getting ready for work in the morning? Thankfully I had some similar pieces in my own closet, and I could paint by dress by numbers quite easily. Phew!

Here is what I came up with:

I even got a little crazy and picked out my own shoes, belt and jewelry. WATCH OUT!

I’m representing Target pretty hard core.

Cardigan: Mossimo for Target
Tee: Merona for Target
Jeans: Gap Slim Boyfriend Jeans
Sandals: Mossimo for Target (I LOVE these sandals!)
Necklace: Uh…Target duh!

So now you know my dirty little secret — I’m a Target-A-Holic. What can I say? I feel better now that this is out in the open. I have to admit I felt SUPER self-conscious posing in an outfit in my backyard but Garrett was sweet about it, directing and stuff — taking it VERY seriously, which I couldn’t help but giggle about. I think this will be fun in ways I can’t even contemplate yet.

Pins of Wisdom

Either you are totally obsessed with Pinterest or you are sick of hearing about it.  I think it’s kind of polarizing, you know, like cilantro.

I happen to be loving on it (speaking of, follow me so I can follow you!) because there is just such a  diversity of stimulus out there:  recipes! gorgeous photos! fashion inspiration! home decor ideas!  I mean you name it, and someone has pinned it. I love the fact that it is such a visual medium: I can just stare at awesome things and then every once in a while click, and it’s tagged in an online bookmarking system FOREVER. Victory.

One of the boards I made for myself is Words of Wisdom (or maybe that board came pre-assigned and I added to it, who knows?) but I have thoroughly enjoyed adding to it and here are a few favorites:

What is not to love about that kind of internet time suck, right?

I also enjoy the fact that the more stuff you pin the more your own personal style becomes super obvious. I started pinning home decor ideas that I enjoyed because I feel like I have NO SENSE OF STYLE when it comes to decorating, but when you look at the board — HELLO color trends! Obviously I do have a style that I’m attracted too.

Plus now I have a place to put all the haircuts I am too scared to try in real life. And of course, a very easy way to show Garrett the kind of engagement rings I think about…you know, in my dreams! (Yeah, you can bet I sent him the link to that board. haha!)

Anyway, since it’s Thursday I thought we all might need a little inspiration to get us through until Friday.

Enjoy!
