What’s Going On Around Here…

Not that you all were tapping your toes with worry or anything, but I just wanted to check in and give you an update since I’m usually around here pretty frequently and I’ve been MIA lately.

So hey — Update # 1: I’m not actually dead!

2. The short story is that last Tuesday I was offered a new position at Ye Olde Day Job and I accepted and have been playing Crazy Town Catch Up and doing two jobs at once ever since. It’s a good opportunity for me, and actually one that has been out there in the ether being a “Potential Opportunity” since November of last year. It feels nice, after almost 3 months, to have a finite role laid out. It’s a good situation for me and Garrett and I’m very excited to be doing it. But it does mean that things will probably be changing around here at least in the near near future until I can get back on my feet organization wise. And since it’s the day job and all, I’ve probably said plenty enough about it and just need to shut up now.

3. Well no, I’m going to say one more thing: So you know how it has been 3 months of up in the air? Well I finally got the official news Tuesday afternoon, which is only noteable because I had dropped Garrett off at the airport Tuesday morning at the airport for a 9 day trip to see his parents out at their property. So basically this means that Tuesday night I was toasting in celebration alone. I mean, you can almost hear the sad trombone playing, right? At least the following night my mom came out to my house and we grilled up some steaks and cracked open a bottle of wine and well, her celebrating is a bit more animated than Buster’s. He likes to show his excitement by snoring on the couch, which is adorable and all, but not so festive.

4. Since Garrett is out of town I am totally feeling out of whack and out of routine and OHMYGOD I am just a giant routine nerd. I feel like a really inflexible dolt when I get out of my routines and I’m seriously panicking that I’m going to up and lock my keys in the car again or something because I’m so all over the place. My brain needs a massage.

5. I’ve been working SO MUCH so I’ve hardly worked out, but that’s probably a good thing since Garrett is the main laundry handler at our house and right now the laundry jungle is looking a little, ahem…overgrown. So I’m actually doing myself a favor by not working out. Or that’s what I keep telling myself. 🙂

6. I did manage to workout once last week and then also go to a THREE HOUR lifting seminar on Saturday morning. I learned a ton! It was super fun. But it was also like, 3 hours of doing squats. My legs are a little hurt-y today, you know? Afterward though I hosted a little Ladies Night for my gym gals and I completely used that as an excuse to make up for the lost champagne of Tuesday night.

7. I’m really ready for Garrett to come home and life to get back to normal, but I don’t even know what normal looks like with this new job, etc etc — so I guess I just need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable, eh? I hate when I have to take my own advice. 🙂 I have an appointment with a chiropractor Wednesday and my knee is feeling a little bit better so I’m hoping to get back to running this week. Cross your fingers for me would ya?

How the hell are all of YOU? What’s going on in your neck of the woods? Did you watch the Oscars last night? Was it just me or were they….kind of weird?

  1. Congratulations!!!

You’re such an inspiration! WWHD is a relatively common question that I ask myself these days. I’m working full time at a job that I enjoy & that pays the bills – But it’s not want I “want to be when I grow up” so I’m launching a full scale assault on the fashion industry to get myself out there and to get myself heard. The end result is that every single moment of every single day is planned & packed to the brim. No time to relax, and when I DO have time to sleep, I’m usually too stressed to stay asleep.

So I know juuust how you’re feeling. You’re a total badass though so keep up the great work, we’re all rooting for you!!!

Caity…you are the sweetest. Thanks! It is a juggle with the day job vs. the passion and I can tell you I COMPLETELY understand about ever single minute of the day being packed to the brim. I’ve been feeling that way for a while and it’s nuts! But I do think it will be worth it. Have you watched this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cITNveY-kig

I love the line where she says that everyday you should do MORE of the things you want to do and LESS of the things you don’t want to do. Sometimes that makes for a super full day, but I just try and focus on the fact that I am doing more of what I want. The rest will eventually fall into place.

    Congrats, lady!

Congrats on the job! My husband normally works out of town during the week during the summer, but it’s not every week all the time. And they find out sometimes as late as Sunday night before Monday morning where they’re going. So frustrating for this routine-craving personality of mine! He’s been gone last week and left again this morning, while over the weekend I had a photography convention PLUS a wedding show I was presenting at. I managed to still see him in the evenings, so that was a bonus. I’m smiling at the fact that I’m back to a modified routine (without the hubby, unfortunately) tomorrow. 🙂

    You’ll find a new routine soon… I promise! 🙂

  4. Rockermocking says:

congrats on the new job! I remember going to the first job interview for my current job on October 16 (I remember exact date as it was after a work event) and then not hearing didly squat for a month and a half (I’m in NY so a hurricane did happen in between then so it was sort of understandable although this job was not affected by Sandy at all) and then the week before Thanksgiving, I finally got a call about coming back in for a second interview, but a firm second interview date wasn’t settled. I had to contact him myself about coming back in as Thanksgiving went by and the second interview still wasn’t planned. Long story shortened, I finally got the job offer the week before Christmas, so while not 3 months, it was still some anxious waiting, so I sort of know how you feel! Glad it worked out! Yay to new jobs!!!

    • Holly says:

Ah, yes…you totally get it then. All the waiting…OMG. It’s like “Listen, let it be a yes or a no. Whatever. JUST GIVE ME A CONCRETE ANSWER SO I CAN MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE.” HAHAH

  5. Congratulations on the new position! I’m sorry you had to celebrate alone but I’m sure there is another bottle of wine that can be opened once Garrett is back. I know what you mean by it being weird. Jake left on a rock climbing trip so I was completely by myself all weekend. My plan was to busy myself with writing blog posts, cleaning the apartment etc. Instead I just sat on the couch watching random tv shows…eh.

Also “being comfortable with being uncomfortable” is hard but doable. When I was in Teach for America, they used to say it was called “being flexible.” But by the 200th+ time things changed, I was ready to throw things. Flexible = the new F word.

  6. Susannah says:

Many congrats and mentally raising a glass of bubbly to you! I hear you on routine. A week ago Sunday I received news of a family emergency and left at 3:30 am Monday for the midwest. I feel like I just walked out of my real life – I guess because I did (!). I will be back home early next week, but I’ve had to really keep my mind off home and focus on here. Safe travels to Garrett! Oh yes, a little horn toot for me – under real stress and sadness but keeping grain and sugar free. I feel really really good about that. My Jan. Whole30 is still with me!

    • Holly says:

Good for you Susannah! I am decidedly NOT doing Whole 30 eating right now. lol So sorry to hear about your family emergency.

  7. Yay, congrats to you!

Going on in my neck of the woods:
    1. I’ve been coaching my friend through her first whole30 and she’s doing great!
    2. My mom just asked about Paleo (this is a BIG step for her) and I’m sending her an amazon package of beginner books.
    3. I’m trying to utilize my CrossFit On Ramp livingsocial deal, but the classes don’t really fit my schedule. Need to be a big girl and email them, I know they are willing to work with me.

    • Holly says:

Oh that’s so great about your friend and your mom! My mom just completed her first Whole 30 (which was a pretty big commitment for her) and I was so proud! That’s nice of you to send her so many books! You’re a good kid. 🙂 haha

Did you figure out CrossFit??? Do it do it do it!!!

  8. Steph says:

Congratulations on EVERY good thing coming your way! 🙂

  9. Isla says:

Congratulation’s on the new job! I’m a big advocate of creating the life you want to live with a whole lot of flexability thrown in for all those twists and turns that the universe sends your way. Best wishes.

  10. Rose-Anne says:

Congratulations, darling! I’m happy to hear your good news. And my legs also hurt today, so we have that in common 🙂 My hurts are from a two-hour run on Sunday followed by a hard bike ride to work today. It’s super-windy here this week, and biking in the wind is always tough.

Congrats, again! Happy trumpet for your news!

    1. Yes, I WAS getting a little worried about you.

    2. I’M SO HAPPY ABOUT YOUR NEW JOB!

    3. I planted all my garden seeds that need to be started indoors this weekend. WOOT!

  12. Michellebuys says:

Yay! Your back! I’m fairly new to your blog, but LOVE it. Congrats on the day job that finally came through! I traveled that road once.

Keep celebrating, your routine is about to turn concrete! Hubby and I had a weekend away recently, while on the road trip we discussed The Rut. The Rut can be a good thing, if you use it intentionally. For example, our routine is so full (wake, pack lunches, shower, ready for my big girl job, feed kids, work, make dinner from my planned meal plan list, whew I’m too tired to shop, even on line) that I stay on my budget!

With all that extra money and knocking out debt I can afford my real food grocery bill and I’m still losing weight!

Good luck with your new routine. Make it work for you!!
