Weekend Life

I made it my mission to get some serious relaxing done this weekend and I’m glad to report it was a success. I baked a ham, took bubble baths, spent some time perusing cookbooks and gossip magazines and even worked my way through an entire book.

We did run some errands, one of which was taking Buster to a doggy-laundromat. 🙂 He got a soapy wash in a hot tub and got to sniff around with some other dogs, which he enjoyed so much that he peed in the store. Awesome. I tried to explain that nobody will invite you to parties if you pee on the furniture, but I don’t think he really gets it just yet.

Yesterday we also got to meet a new little baby who was so perfect and tiny and small. It never stops being surprising to me that as humans, WE MAKE OTHER HUMANS. I’m not sure if having my own child will make that realization feel more or less shocking. We celebrated the holidays a bit last night by drinking some bourbon with coconut milk “eggnog” and watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and it felt like we are finally, finally ready to feel festive instead of just indulgent.

It makes me look forward to the coming week.

  1. First, that sounds like my kind of eggnog! 🙂 Second, your “we make other humans” line totally made me giggle. And choke on my candy cane tea. And it made me think of the Matrix for some reason… Haha. Glad you had a great weekend, I still can’t wait to meet Honey Boo Boo turned Buster!

Perfect babies are awesome. Christmas Vacation is just a shade less awesome. It was just pure awesome having you guys over yesterday. Do I sound like an iPhone commercial yet with all the awesomes?

Having your own child will just make that realization more shocking. At first you’ll be shocked that your body knew how to make another one and do things like make tiny perfect fingernails and smooth baby skin. Then as your child gets older, you will be shocked that the thing you made didn’t just come with a body, it has a personality and a soul. I always wonder if it had been any other time, any other month, any other egg, would I have ended up with the perfect child I have now or would he have been different?

Wait. Let’s discuss this coconut milk “Eggnog” some more…is it just coconut milk with bourbon in it? Because I don’t really enjoy eggnog but I like coconut milk and I love bourbon. Please explain. 🙂

Glad you had a restful weekend!

  6. Love the Sunset cookbook!

haha about buster having a wee in the store. My dog did that at a friend’s home when he was feeling a bit territorial. He peed all over his laundry hamper, to be precise.

    Holly,

Marks’ Daily Apple has a simple 4-6 ingredient primal eggnog recipe, if you’re looking for an alternative! I can’t attest to it, as I don’t love traditional egg nog, but I could be persuaded with a big glug of that delicious bourbon you posted. Yum!

And, I tried this eggnog last weekend with my boyfriend….and it’s fabulous. He’s an eggnog connoisseur and was raving about it. I added more maple syrup than suggested, and it is delicious. Highly recommend. And so easy to make. I bet if the date were used, it wouldn’t require the added maple syrup.
