Fun Things To Read On Friday

Wod 13.1 in the books! (Pinot Noir in the glass, obvs)

Woo Hoo! It’s Friday! And I’m aaaaaaaaaaaaalmost starting to feel normal again. Just in time for the weekend 🙂 Garrett and I celebrated the gateway to the weekend last night by doing workout 13.1 of the CrossFit Games Open. How many of you are participating? HOW AWFUL WAS THAT OHMYGOD. But also, so super fun! I ended up getting 126 reps and of course instantly was like “Aw I could have done better.” But you know what? WHATEVER. It’s for fun and I “enjoyed” myself, and I can’t wait to see what the next few weeks of workouts bring!

Plus the glass of wine I had after the workout tasted super great. Have I mentioned how much I love my gym? Now…onto some links.

*Since we’re talking about it, here are Four Reasons Every CrossFitter Should Participate In the CrossFit Games Open. I agree with every single one.

*I was really touched by this post about Creating Community After The Lonely Years. I’ve met so many great people and dear friends because of this website and the internet. Sometimes I still can’t believe that because I never really thought I’d be a “find friends on the internet” kind of person, but I feel super grateful that I have.

*I keep thinking I need to incorporate more organ meats in my diet but I JUST. CAN’T. EAT. THEM. I came across this idea for The Easiest Way To Eat Liver recently and I may try that. (OHMAHGAWD. LIVER.)

*I couldn’t agree more with the sentiments in this post. I think a fulfilled life is full of risk taking.

*Garrett is OBSESSED with Campari and I am…well, not. So much. I bookmarked this list of new ways to use Campari, so I’m going to see if I can find a Campari cocktail we both love this Spring.

*My friend Erica wrote about money this week but in the end I also think it touched on more than that. It was a nice reminder to me to not only be grateful for Garrett, but for our partnership. My mom has said many times that the thing she misses most about losing my dad is losing her partner. When you are bickering about the right way to do chores around the house or how to spend money it can be easy to lose sight of the fact that it is an absolute luxury to have someone to argue with about these things.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

i saw that liver post earlier this week… about 6 hours too late! I finally worked up the nerve to buy and make liver (recipe from the new Paleo Slow Cooker book). I prepped the crock pot in the morning, went off to work, all day i dreaded what i would come home too… at some point that day i saw the pills idea and thought that sounded way more appealing… i got home, it smelled ok, but looked terrible. my husband wouldn’t touch it. i took one bite and couldn’t force it down. It was TERRRIBLE! i plan on making the pills this weekend. if that doesn’t work, i’m just going to have to go without all those nutrients

  3. I love that picture of you two! It made me so happy to see it yesterday on Instagram/Facebook!

I’ll be doing 13.1 on Sunday morning and kinda freaking out about it. Yea, it’s DEF for fun but still! 🙂 Can’t wait to see how I do though. Nice job!

I know how lomg you’ve tried to eat offal. Last trick I can recommend (besides meatloaf — yum!!!) is to buy fresh livers, partially freeze them, and then cut into swallow-size chunks. Lay the small chunks on a cookie sheet and freeze ’em solid. When they’re frozen, put them in a container. Swallow one or two like a vitamin every day … Raw or not, your guts don’t care. Fresh, easy, no “offal” taste.

Try grating frozen liver into ground beef for meatballs or meatloaf. You’ll never even know it’s there!

Kinda late to the game here!

I, too, am trying to eat more organ meats. Of course, any consumption of them is “more,” since they’ve never been a part of my diet in the past…. Anyway! The liverwurst from US Wellness meats is pretty okay kind of. Okay enough that I can eat it three times per week or so. It’s a little weird, especially if I start to think about what I’m eating, but I manage to eat it with no gagging or ill will toward the stuff. That’s something, right?
