It’s That Time Again: Choose My Haircut

We have very important superficial things to discuss today people. Namely, my hair. AND HOW IT MUST BE CUT.

If you remember, the last time we had this discussion was in May of this year, so it is HIGH TIME for a haircut. I’m pretty sure normal people do not go 7 months without getting their mops chopped, but I’ve never been one to be normal.

This is also the picture that made me fantasize about Juvederm or other injectible things POURED INTO THE WRINKLES IN MY FACE OMG. But that is another blog post altogether.

Anyway, back to the hair. It’s not horrible, it’s just currently in that unruly state where it takes A LOT of work to get it to look only ok. And I prefer to have hair that is fun instead of just hair that is constantly pulled back into a ponytail. Though I am a sucker for ponytails with bangs, but we’ll talk about that in a minute. If you want some tips to take care of your facial hair, visit //www.groenerekenkamer.com.

I like hair that actually has a style. It’s okay if it take a lot of styling products and a hair dryer and looks fabulous, but I’m not that into hair that requires multiple tools and a prayer just to look “decent.” In my vast 34 years of mop chopping experience there are two things I do with my hair that fit those requirements.

Have you ever get a bad haircut or in the salon they have damage your hair and there is no way back? If your answer is yes, let me tell you that there is a possibility to suing a beauty salon for all the problems that they can cause, so next time keep this in mind. Next time, choose a salon that consulted for hairdressing health and safety advice.

A. Bangs

photo

I like bangs. Blunt Bangs. Choppy Bangs. Swoopy Bangs. They’re just fun! But yes, they do become annoying after a while and then one must grow them out. First world problems and all that. But I do love a good ponytail with bangs, which might be a nice way to not cut off a lot of length, but still have a fun hairdo that is more functional. I just said hairdo. Do people under 80 still say hairdo?

For your reference: Me with bangs (Please ignore Garrett’s caveman beard. I don’t know what was up with that.)

B. Shorter Hair

photo

Shorter hair is fun and sassy. It looks good straight, lends itself well to curling and always looks like it was cut to be in that particular style. But it can be a pain for workouts, and I haven’t learned how to expand my short hair repertoire beyond A-line bob. I’m up for suggestions.

For your reference: Me with my most recent shorter hair (Man, that photo makes me miss summer and sunshine.)

So. here we sit, two roads diverged in a yellow wood. Take a vote and let me know what you think.

Great picture with your short hairdo. 😉 I would say combine the two. I am shortish with bangs…and yes after working out, it’s not the most flattering, sweaty and sticking in every direction but the one that best suits you, but Meh, who cares, you just worked out, your making your body beautiful, the hair part comes after the shower. 🙂

I’ve been doing some at home all-natural stuff for my face that seems to be helping. Glycolic acid peels, vitamin e oil, etc.

Sometimes I am all, “My wrinkles show a life well lived! Proof that I laugh and smile a lot!” And sometimes I am all, “I look like a Poughkeepsie and this is the worst thing EVER!”

  3. Steph says:

P.S. I DO NOT think your hair looks bad in that photo! 🙂

  4. I think you would look adorable w/ bangs (i.e. #1 and/or #3) buuut I’ve cut bangs twice in the last 5 years and regretted so I want to share my experience. It was cute & fun to start, but I started pinning them to the side, hating them & trying to grow them out within weeks. If you like to do your hair every morning than it’s a style that’s workable, but if you’re like me & like to keep things simple, bangs aren’t the way to go. It’s been a year & they stilllll don’t stay behind my ear 100% of the time! 🙁

P.S. You’d look fab w/ a layered bob a la Rihannah. Can’t wait to see what you end up with! <3

I’m getting my hair cut tomorrow and going for a short bob and bangs, ala Katie Holmes 2006. It’s the one haircut that really works for me, so I keep going back to it.

I’m currently in the bangs with ponytail stage of my own hair and thinking it might be time to change. The thing I don’t like about this length is I HAVE to put it up before I brush my teeth and it feels less wash and wear to me. The thing I don’t like about mine short (boy cut short) is how often I feel I have to get it cut to keep it looking good. I feel stuck about deciding, too. So I look forward to seeing what you decide.

  7. Mariah B says:

Oo. I love that photo of you with the shorter hair. I say go short! 🙂

  8. Lisa says:

    I love your hair short!

  9. sizzle says:

I like the blonde shorter cut on the left. It has some bang with the shorter style- so cute! Best of both worlds!

As for what to do with shorter hair when you work out- headband or bobby pins work for me.

    Hair grows, change is good.

I looooove your short hair picture. Definitely go for that again.

So my vote is for no bangs, I was happy to see that folks are not voting for that stright up! But bangs and cross fit, ugh sounds like a mess to me. Now Im not a “do my hair” girl so I happen to like your current longer straight version just fine. But its about you right…so go short.

  12. missysoupy says:

I say bangs. They have a great way of bringing out your eyes, and are better in the winter anyway. Then you can grow them out and go sassy short in the summer. Disclaimer: I’d never give myself bangs again, but only because I live in Houston where it’s disgustingly humid 98% of the year, and the bangs stick to my greasy forehead. But you — you should definitely rock the bangs!

  13. missysoupy says:

Also, these ponytail holders are amazing for shorter hair. They will tangle themselves into a giant hairy mess if you are sloppy when pulling them out of long hair, but they will NOT slip out of shorter hair and are necessary gear for a serious workout.

LOVE LOVE LOVE bangs, so go for the bangs! As for the length, maybe just take enough off that you can still pull it back into a baby ponytail for working out. I like having a little longer hair just to be able to vary the style a little more…but that’s just me. I think you’ll love fabulous no matter what you decide!

  15. Liz says:

I love your hair in the “short cut” picture! Every once in awhile I work up the courage to go short, and I never like the way it looks with my face.

Also, I am just the opposite of you! I like fast and simple, preferably no product required. I pretty much live in “scrunchies.” I just this year discovered the flatiron, which is about as far as I go when it comes to styling. For the record, 7 months is nothing for me – I think it has been about a year since I got my hair cut, if not more. I am going this Saturday, though, since my split ends have long since worn out their welcome.

I love your short look but it can be a pain in a workout – hence MY longer locks! So, you might also check out Bondi Bands – lifesaver for the WODs

  17. AustinGirl says:

Oh my goodness! LOVE the short hair!!!! Do that!! Then, if you do go for bangs, there’s less to grow out before it all blends.
Also, I have hair that’s slightly below my jaw and I solve the hair-at-gym issue with a fabulous collection of bandannas. You can get normal ones at REI and fun ones at craft stores like Hobby Lobby, JoAnn or Michaels. I have a few tie dye and batik ones that I just love…and they were like $1 each too!

DUDE! Short hair ROCKS! What’s the worst thing that happens? you cut it and hate it and grow it out? No biggie! Just do it and I think you’ll be blown away by how much you like having short hair:)
