Hey, Monday. Here You Are Again.

I don’t make it a habit of doing a weekend recap every single Monday morning but lately — perhaps it’s the weather — weekends have felt sort of noteworthy. The funny thing is, it’s not because we’re doing all sorts of fabulous things. I think it is the fact that I decided at the beginning of spring that I was going to embrace the heat and the sweat and sunshine that never seems to quit here in this city, instead of complaining about it all. And what do you know — change your mindset, change your life. Hmmm..

This weekend was a No Rest For the Weary kind of weekend though! Luckily it was a 3 day weekend so I could cram all of the stuff in! Man do I love those. So much so that I work an Alternative Work Schedule to ensure they happen twice per month. If you have to sell yourself to a corporation, this is a nice way to do it. In a normal pay period I work 9/9-Hour Days and then on the tenth, I get an Earned Day Off. I recently switched that day to a Friday Earned Day and man has THAT been the best decision ever!

This past Friday I got mah hairs did and I basically walked around feeling sassy all afternoon. I always forget how a new haircut will do that.

I’m VERY lazy about doing my hair, so it was a nice reminder, and then I spent the rest of Friday afternoon doing some other errands (New Hair! New Purse! New Tank Top! All of these things make Errands more F-U-N.) They weren’t exciting errands, so every bit of positivity helped. That’s what I spend a lot of my Earned Days Off doing. I guess I should just be grateful I get to do them on a week day instead of the weekend like the rest of my fellow Monday thru Friday 9 to 5ers. Oooh, one of my errands included FINALLY finding a nude colored slip, so thanks for all the suggestions on Twitter. Much appreciated help with my fashion emergency! 🙂

Friday night we ended up at Chicago Fire at a going away party for an old friend and coworker named Erin. We’re sad that she is moving (all the way to NEW MEXICO!) but the upside is — we go there pretty regularly, so we don’t have to say goodbye forever, just for right now!

Plus, she’s moving FOR LOVE! Hello, is there any better reason to move? These two love birds say No!

Chicago Fire has a great cocktail made with gin, lemon zest and elderflower syrup. It may be my new favorite! I love a good sour cocktail! Speaking of cocktails, we had so much fun being out and about downtown that we made an impromptu stop on the way home and one at another bar where one of our favorite CrossFit coaches works. (Well, Garrett had one, I was the DD. Womp Womp.)

The weekend was definitely filled with lots of social time with folks we like!

Saturday I was up early because my mom and I were heading up to Chico for a Bridal Shower for my cousin Jim’s lovely fiance Gina, and for some reason I got a hair up my ass to bake. I think it was the brown bananas that were staring me down, but I whipped up a quick batch of Paleo Banana Bread Muffins.

It was a good decision.

Fueled, my mom and I road tripped up to Chico which is about 90 minutes away.

It was a Hawaiian themed shower so we noshed on delicious food (I tried to make it my mission to eat ALL the macadamia nuts) and I got to see all the ladies in my family, which was great.

Saturday night, after that 90 minute return drive, I started to feel a little under the weather though. So I went to bed early in hopes that I would wake up feeling refreshed. I didn’t feel too much better on Sunday morning, but I made it my mission to at least hit up the park and go to the farmers market and grab some groceries. There was no weekly food prep happening this week though, I was just TOO TIRED!

It was all I could do to marinate a batch of Maple Mustard Chicken for dinner that night. (Also worth it. Man that stuff is good!)

We grilled last night and watched the awesome shadows of the eclipse. Sometimes nature just blows my mind.
Eclipse shadows are blowing my mind!

Then it was early to bed for me again (even after a 3 hour mid-day nap!) so you KNOW I’m not feeling super amazing. Pretty sure I’m going to have to skip the gym tonight, which makes me VERY unhappy. But I gotta make it through this week in one piece because HELLO, next weekend is a 3 day weekend too! Back to backs! Holla!

Did you do anything crazy this weekend? Do you have any good natural remedies to suggest when you feel a cold coming on? I’m all ears.

First, love your hair! Cute new do!

Second, I work a 4/10 schedule right now (which usually means EVERY Friday off) which is just THE BEST. Period. Yeah, work days are long, but long weekends are so much more important 🙂

Third, I have those (Target!) sandals and love them!

Four, I spend my weekend in SoCal and completely forgot about the eclipse. BUMMER! Although I was wondering last night that it was kinda dark “early” …. DUH!

    • Holly says:

      Thanks San!

My company entertained the 4/10s idea but ultimately decided against it. I would *TOTALLY* work 4/10s…no problem!

Don’t feel bad, I did the same thing last night with the eclipse. I walked in and said “It looks smoggy or something weird outside” and Garrett was like “HELLO. ECLIPSE.” 🙂

We didn’t do anything out of the ordinary for us this Saturday; we did all of our grocery shopping for the week. Sunday we took our daughter to the zoo and were pretty bummed because it was an event day at the zoo so it was packed. We didn’t stay too long. We go to the zoo so often that we just hit all of our favorite things and then took off. All in all our weekend was pretty normal.

Your super cute hair has convinced me to do what I’ve been thinking about doing for a long time. I called this morning and made an appointment at a salon and I’m going in in 2 hours to to chop off my hair. I’m so excited and scared. My hair is down to my butt and I don’t have any real plans I just want a change. We’ll see.

That first outfit is so super sassy. I will say it again- loving that hair cut on you!

Whenever I start to feel sick, I immediately start taking Zicam and get lots of rest and fluids. Mr. Darcy is down with a nasty head cold right now so I am doing my best to steer clear, get sleep, and drink a ton of water. Hope you beat it off at the pass.

    • Holly says:

Oh no…not a man cold! 🙂 Those are the worst. haha

Well, any sickness is the worst. Although I am all for taking more naps…

    Christy,

Do you know about Locks of Love? They collect long hair to make wigs for kids with hair loss. Ask your stylist to first braid your hair or put it in a ponytail, please. Details here: http://www.locksoflove.org/donate.html

  5. Steph says:

You look SO great in all your pictures! So happy! So beautiful!

  6. Two words: Damn, Gina.

  7. Jill says:

Love the joy of new hair.
And, do tell: where’d you find the perfect nude slip (or slip period!)? Every slip I own feels like sausage casing. :/

    • Holly says:

Well, unfortunately the slip IS a little bit sausage casing-esque. I swear you can’t get a slip that isn’t shapewear anymore…it’s crazy! But I found it at Target and for $17 and it’s not uncomfortable at all. I’ve worn it twice, both times for more than 8 hours, so even though it’s a “tight” slip, it’s still comfy!
