Say Hello To My Little Friend + 4 Must Try Smoothies

So I bought a new toy.

It’s the Ninja Kitchen System 1100, and I have to say I’m officially in love.

You see, my old blender fell to its fiery death back in October and it just wasn’t high on the priority list of things to replace throughout winter. But with spring all up in my grill, I was really starting to miss my smoothies! Especially post workout — in the summer it is an ABSOLUTE MUST! Obviously I’d love a Vitamix or a BlendTec, and even though I KNOW how great they are and probably worth every penny, I just don’t want to spend $300+ on a blender. Call me cheap. It’s okay, I’ve been called worse. 🙂

So when The Ninja went on Sale at Costco and claimed that it could blend, juice, crush ice, make soup and knead dough, all for $97 — I decided it was time to take the plunge! Well, actually my mom bought it, I used hers for a week, AND THEN I decided to take the plunge. And I’m so glad I did! It’s been great to be able to make some smoothies these last couple of weeks and as such I’ve taken to pinterest, as you do, and found a few recipes that are destined to be Ninja-fied in the very near future. (click on the pictures to take you to the recipes)

Chocolate Banana Smoothie via Multiply Delicious

It’s a classic combo that never tastes bad! I like to freeze my bananas to make my smoothies extra cold. In the summer we end up going through BAGS of frozen bananas, it’s kid of crazy!

Vanilla Macadamia Smoothie via Green Lemonade

If you say macadamia nuts, I say LET’S EAT! Or..uh, rather drink in this instance. I’ve never met a macadamia anything I didn’t like.

Grapefruit Smoothie via Golubka

I think this looks delicious and sounds intriguing. Grapefruit? In a smoothie? I will definitely report back.

Blueberry Cucumber Smoothie via Paleo Diet Lifestyle

Another intriguing flavor combination that I’m looking forward to trying. Cucumbers are so refreshing and blueberries ALWAYS make a good smoothie ingredient, so we shall see….

Of course I’ve already made a million Green Smoothies, but that’s a given right? Whoever invented drinking spinach was a genius!

  1. I live for green smoothies so I love kale/spinach + apple + ginger + cinammon + Sun Warrior. Sooo good!

Caity, that sounds like an awesome combo. I don’t know why but whenever something has cinnamon in it I instantly love it! What’s Sun Warrior?

I’ve been doing banana, apple, berries, and greens of any kind with coconut water, coconut oil and a little vanilla. I’ve also been adding bee pollen for energy, and maca root powder to help with my hormones imbalances. Delicious, and I have tons if energy.

    • Holly says:

Hmmm…I’ve never heard of maca root powder. Now I’m intrigued. Must go google since I’ve had some hormone struggles as well!

  3. These all sound amazing! I made a daily green smoothie for lunch–a ton of spinach, a banana, vanilla protein powder, chia seeds and unsweetened almond milk–but need to mix it up a bit. I’m intrigued by the macadamia nut one.

Also, while I have a nice blender from our wedding and a really expensive juicer, I’ve been all about this little guy lately, which my mom got me for Christmas and is SO convenient (and runs about $30 from Wal-Mart or Target):

  4. I know, right? It’s now my go-to as a gift for wedding showers! The clean up is a zillion times better than my juicer.

  5. Amelia says:

Oh, man. You have me drooling, Holly! I’ve been meaning to get a food processor and the juicing thing intrigues me. Have you tried it for either of those things? I already have a personal size blender thing (Cuisinart brand) similar to the one mentioned by Camels and Chocolate (love THAT name, by the way) so I’m already covered on the smoothie front. I’ve just been dragging my feet about the food processor. Love the idea of something that does double or triple duty.

    • Holly says:

I haven’t used it for juicing yet but I will probably do a full review on here if it changes my life 🙂 I’ve been wanting a juicer too, but not enough to pay a lot of money for it. Also, I just don’t have the kitchen space for millions of appliances and I prefer to eat rather than drink my food, 9 times out of 10 so I have stayed away from all the juicing business. That said, I am definitely going to try it out soon! I’ll let ya know!

hi holly! i just wanted to drop a note and say hello. i also wanted to say that a favorite ingredient i love in smoothies is a tablespoon of udo’s oil. awesome stuff for super healthy hair and glowing skin. have you tried it? and i will also say, that a good coffee smoothie is nothing i turn down either! – noelle

Hi! I am inspired by you! I am going to not only start with your ideas on lifestyle change tomorrow, but also the 30 day denim challenge. Here is my kicker with the denim, they will all be jeans that I have that either fit tightly, or don’t fit at all so I can see the change in the 30 days that I try this! I am going to blog about it, but not post until day 15 – don’t want to set myself up to fail!!!

Wish my luck! Thank you for posting and staying posting – it is hard to find blogs where people continue to post – makes you lose inspiration and motivation!
